For a while, now, I’ve been fascinated with the use of mobile devices as “remotes” to control various things (probably having to do with my obsession with RC cars as a kid). Here are a five of my favorites.
1. The Chevy Volt iPhone App
This is an app that controls your cars charge, locks/unlocks it and sounds the horn.
2. GoogleTV Android Remote Control App
Easily search for and change channels (through text and voice commands), share content from small screen to big screen.
3. OnOne DSLR Camera iPhone & iPad Remote
4. TouchTones Jukebox Remote Control
Go to 1 of 45,000 bars that have the TouchTones jukeboxes and search, select, & choose your favorite songs to play on them using your phone.
5. Xfinity iPad Remote
I’ve already blogged about this one, but there’s something very liberating about being able to set your DVR from anywhere.
One of the greatest powers of mobile has to do with the fact that we carry our devices with us most of the time. Brands are just starting to take advantage of the accessibility this affords us to provide real utility and control through portability.
